ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene generally refers to unbranched linear polyethylene molecular chains with a molecular weight of 150×104 or more that basically do not contain polar groups. The crystallinity is generally 65% to 85%. Density 0.95~0.98g/cm³. Because UHMWPE has excellent properties such as high strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, low temperature resistance and aging resistance that cannot be matched by other engineering plastics, it plays a vital role in fishery, military, marine engineering and other fields. The performance of UHMWPE is compared with other commonly used engineering plastics as shown in Table 1. It can be seen from Table 1 that compared with other commonly used engineering plastics, the density of UHMWPE has been effectively reduced, while its elongation at break and impact strength have been greatly improved.
Because of its excellent performance and high cost performance, UHMWPE has also made many applications in the fishery field, such as fishing nets, fishing trawls, deep-water cages, high-end fishing lines, large-scale aquaculture purse seines or algal aquaculture rafts. Due to the mechanical characteristics of UHMWPE fiber and the excellent performance of its products, rope nets and other materials made of UHMWPE fiber at home and abroad have been gradually applied in the fishery field since 1957. In the United States, the Netherlands, China, Japan, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Iceland and other countries, UHMWPE fibers have been used in fishing gear and aquaculture facilities such as trawls, deep-water cages, and purse seines.
